Universal Orlando Announces Mythos Closure, Lost Continent Changes, and Horror Make-Up Show Re-imagining
Major changes are continuing across Universal Orlando Resort as the resort prepares for the future, but several newly announced closures have left longtime fans concerned about what’s next. From the loss of iconic dining locations in Universal Islands of Adventure to the temporary closure of one of the resort’s most beloved live shows, Universal has officially confirmed a series of updates that will significantly reshape parts of the destination in the coming months.
Mythos Closure

Recently revealed is a new detail regarding the upcoming transformation of the Lost Continent area at Universal Islands of Adventure, and many longtime fans are expressing disappointment over the changes.
One of the biggest announcements is the upcoming closure of the fan-favorite Mythos Restaurant later this year. Universal also confirmed that Thunder Falls Terrace will permanently close to make way for a brand-new signature dining experience. Many fans are hoping the location could become “Hammond’s,” the signature restaurant featured in Jurassic World at Universal Beijing Resort.
At this time, Universal has not revealed what will replace Mythos and what additional changes may be planned for the Lost Continent area or the restaurant specifics and menu for the re-imagined Thunder Falls Terrace. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
Horror Make-Up Show

The fan-favorite Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show will also be closing temporarily for a re-imagining beginning May 12. Universal stated that the updated version of the show will retain its core focus on demonstrating practical movie-making effects and techniques, while hopefully preserving the humor and audience interaction that have made the show a longtime guest favorite. The show will debut later this year in winter of 2026.
While many of these changes are still surrounded by mystery, it’s clear that Universal Orlando Resort is continuing its rapid evolution ahead of the next era of growth for the resort. As beloved locations and experiences make way for new additions, fans will be closely watching to see how Universal balances modernization with the charm and atmosphere that made these offerings so popular in the first place. Florida Thrills will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more details are officially announced.
